Learn About Our Rescue Fund

Huxley & Kent is proud to offer retailers the opportunity to participate in the Huxley & Kent Rescue Fund. Every month, at least one retailer will win a $250 donation to their local rescue group. The program starts on May 1, 2015. Each month, Huxley & Kent will randomly choose one (or more!) retailers that ordered Huxley & Kent products that month. If you win, you will then be able to dedicate the donation to the animal shelter or rescue group of your choice. Retailers need not do anything more than buy Huxley & Kent products and they will automatically be registered to win!

August 2017

Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming in Bridgewater, NJ won our Huxley & Kent Rescue Fund for the month of August 2017. Woof Gang is one of 100+ (and growing) fantastic stores around the US as part of the Woof Gang franchise. They specialize in raw, frozen and grain-free diets for cats and dogs, plus offer head to tail grooming. They are very involved with their local pet rescue, Somerset Regional Animal Shelter. SRASNJ takes in over 1,000 animals every year! In addition to helping to find forever homes they also help with behavior modification, animal control, affordable spay and neuter and pet retention programs. July 2017

The winner of July’s Huxley & Kent Rescue Fund donation was Pasquesi Home and Gardens in Illinois. They have three wonderfully stocked locations in Lake Bluff, Lake Forest and Barrington IL servicing Chicago and it’s our suburbs for home, garden and pet needs. Pasquesi chose As Good as Gold Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois. Just one peek at their adoptable dogs will melt your heart! They have helped to rescue over 2,100 Goldens since May 2003. They average 35-40 dogs in their care at a time and each is being cared for in a loving foster home. They also go the extra mile to provide long term care for those Goldens that may have issues that keep them from being adoptable. We salute them for all they do to help care for America’s most popular dog!

June 2017

June’s Rescue Fund Winner was Dog Dog Cat in South Lake Tahoe, CA! Dog Dog Cat was started by George and Mary Kay Richter to support their clients and their pets. They are committed to providing products to keep pets healthy, happy and stylishly well-appointed! They picked Canine Rehabilitation Center and Sanctuary for their donation. CRCS concentrates on the rescue, recovery and placement of at-risk dogs in the community. These dogs include victims of abuse, dog fighting, lab research, neglect, hoarding, puppy mills, confinement or isolation. We were happy to help this wonderful cause!

May 2017

May’s Rescue Fund Winner was For The Love of Pete! in Richmond, VA. Owned by Maureen Phinney, this small boutique packs in a lot of wonderful, unique products and offers you A+ service and a ton of knowledge on what to buy to best fit your pet’s needs. Maureen asked that we split the donation between two groups. Fetch A Cure collects donations to help fund those unexpected major medical issues for our beloved pets. They also offer pets for adoption and partner with PenPals pups who are housed in Virginia correctional facilities. A visit to their website show many heart warming stories about pets that would not have been given the medical or adoption help that they needed without the dedication of this wonderful group. Maureen also picked The Richmond Animal Welfare Foundation, the local rescue group and shelter for Richmond and it’s surrounding areas. Thank you For The Love of Pete! for introducing us to these wonderful rescue groups!!

April 2017

April’s winner is FuzzyButz Pet Bakery in downtown St. Joseph, MI. They bake fresh treats daily with only the best ingredients, no by-products or preservatives ever. FuzzyButz has been bringing fresh treat to the pets of St. Joe for over 14 years! Mary Schaut, Owner, felt very strongly that the best use of the donation would be with Animal Aid of Southwestern Michigan. Animal Aid of Southwestern Michigan has been around about 25 years now, and they help lots of hurt animals. They’ve saved hundreds through the years. I know they’ve been struggling raising money since their founder passed away a few years ago.” said Mary. Located in Berrien County, MI they concentrate on bringing medical services to homeless pets, promote spay and neutering and campaign for the elimination of animal cruelty. Keep up the good work Animal Aid!!!

March 2017

This month’s winner is Woof Gang Bakery in Asheville, NC, located in Biltmore Park Town Square. Woof Gang Bakery offers hand made treats for pups made with love and wholesome, nutritional ingredients. The store also offers a wonderful selection of boutique items and services to pamper pets. They chose Boxer Butts and Other Mutts for their charity. This organization concentrates on helping rescue pets in Western North Carolina through the help of their “Rescue Family” where they pull pets from shelters and take them into their own homes to foster and provide medical treatment before adoption. Cheers to Boxer Butts for all their good works!

February 2017

Our Our February winner, Coast Pet Supplies and Grooming picked their local shelter, the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter for their charily. PUP Laguna Beach is the fundraising arm of the shelter, dedicated to bridging the gap between City funding and the special needs of their animals. In December of 2010, the shelter was severely flooded and ruined from 5 feet of flood water and numerous mud slides.

January 2017

January 2017’s Huxley & Kent Rescue Fund winner was Bow Wow Meow in San Francisco, CA. They asked that the donation be given to Veterinary Street Outreach Services. Vet SOS is a project of the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium, and provides free pop-up veterinary clinics in specially equipped mobile outreach vans to the companion animals of homeless San Franciscans. Bow Wow Meow is a family owned business since 1999 and cares about offering the most advance products in the pet industry, along with products manufactured by small local vendors. Bow Wow Meow has three locations in the San Francisco area including Menlo Park and San Carlos. We are thrilled to donate to this wonderful organization!

December 2016

The winner of the H&K Rescue Fund for the month of December 2017 is Woof Gang Bakery in Aberdeen NJ! They are part of the fast growing chain of Woof Gang Bakery’s all over the US with a total of 81 stores nationwide and more on the way! Store owners, Barbara and Ray were thrilled to help their local charity Sammy’s Hope Animal Welfare and Adoption Center in North Brunswick, NJ. Since inception, they have been providing adoption services for shelter animals and helping to relieve overcrowded conditions at area municipal animal shelters. They focus on animals that have been in shelters for especially long periods, those being overlooked for adoption for any number of reasons, and those whose behaviors may be hindering their adoption. They really focus on dogs that would otherwise be overlooked and we salute them for their good works!

November 2016

Phydeaux Chapel Hill won the Huxley & Kent Rescue Fund for November, 2016. Phydeaux is locally owned with three locations in Raleigh, Cary and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Started in 2002, they pride themselves on having the largest selection of premium quality pet food and supplies in the Triangle. They have also won the Best of the Triangle Award 10 years in a row. They chose a busy and dedicated organization, Chatham Animal Rescue & Education Inc (CARE) for their donation. CARE, in Pittsboro, North Carolina is a no-kill organization dedicated to promote the health and safety of all cats and dogs in Chatham County and provides foster care for animals until they can be adopted.

October 2016

We made two donations for the month of October! Our first October winner was Olde Towne School for Dogs who chose Canine Companions for Independence as their charity. CCI was founded in 1975 and helps people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs nationally. They are the largest non-profit provider of assistance dogs and are recognized worldwide for the excellence of their dogs. Olde Towne School for Dogs is located in Alexandria, VA and was also established in 1975. They are very highly regarded for their dog training school and are a family owned and operated business including a 7,000 SF location featuring training, retail and grooming. Our second October winner was Emi Pet Salon and Boutique in Columbus, OH. They chose a local adoption charity, A.D.O.P.T. Pet Rescue. A.D.O.P.T. (Animals Depend on People Too) works to ensure that no dog or cat is forced to suffer cruelly by wandering the streets with no home to go to and no one to provide warmth and love. 100% of donations go directly towards furthering their goals. Emi Pet has two locations in Columbus OH offering dog grooming, cat grooming, doggie daycare, mobile grooming, a pet hotel and daycare.

September 2016

The September winner of the H&K Rescue Fund was Scalawags in Kennebunkport, ME! Scalawags offers a one-of-a-kind shopping experience including lots of nautical and Maine themed items, including locally made Maine dog treat. They chose the Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk, ME, a no-kill animal shelter is raising money for a new clinic so we were excited to help out! AWS was formed in the early 1960’s (!) and while doing their good works also provide the animal control services for 21 municipalities.

August 2016

Our August 2016 winner this year is Denver, CO based Simpawtico and owner, Kevin Hogan. Locally owned and independent, Simpawtico cares about providing the very best for your pet starting with great food, treats, and supplements. Their rescue group for the donation was PawsCo, also based in Denver. PawsCo is 100% volunteer run and concentrates on three areas of focus: spay/neuter outreach to prevent unwanted litters, a pet food drive in conjunction with the Food Bank of the Rockies so pets can stay with their families, and adoptions of homeless animals.

July 2016

Nitro Dog in Lafayette, CA located in the East Bay area of San Francisco is the July winner. Nitro Dog is one of the “old dogs” in the movement to provide premium, high-quality foods and have been doing so for 16 years. Leslie, the owner of Nitro Dog chose Greyhound Friends for Life whose mission has been to save the lives of racing greyhounds and sighthound mixes for nearly 25 years. Unfortunately, thousands of greyhound puppies are born in breeding farms every year. At 18 months of age, those that can race will be sent away to race until they are no longer viable to the greyhound owner leaving hundreds of greyhounds in need of a safe-haven. Since GFFL has started, they have placed over 3,000 greyhounds into their forever homes. Like many animal rescue groups, GFFL is an all volunteer group.

June 2016

The winner for June 2016 was BEOWOOF | Provisions for Pets in Hoboken, NJ! Their charity of choice was, See Spot Rescued in Jersey City, NJ!. See Spot Rescued prides themselves on a single purpose: to provide a permanent loving home for every homeless dog taken under their care and support. They strive to make the best possible match between the family and the dog, based on previous history, breed and experience. They work from the premise that each four legged furry beast is a client. Their mission is to find them a lifetime companion who will provide them eternal unconditional love.

See Spot Rescued focuses on saving dogs in the South, specifically in rural North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Georgia. No matter their age, breed, or health, if they’ve come into contact with a See Spot Rescued representative, then they can rest assured they will find a home.

May 2016

The winner for May 2016 was Fideaux Outfitters for Dogs & Cats in St. Helena and Headsburg, CA! Their charity of choice was, Wine Country Animal Lovers in Calistoga, CA. Wine Country Animal Lovers serves the upper Napa Valley and Lake County of California offering shelter, adoption services, providing resources for lost and found animals, reducing euthanasia and promoting education on responsible pet ownership.

April 2016

The winner for April 2016 was Especially for Pets in Canton, MA! They chose as the charity of their choice, Shultz’s Guest House. Shultz’s Guest House is a 501c3 dog rescue shelter, located on 200 private acres in Dedham, MA. It’s hard to imagine that such a place exists for homeless dogs, but it does. Surrounded by forest and ponds, with the Charles River running through it, dogs and visitors have a sense of stepping into paradise. Each dog has access to a large outdoor play and exercise area, monitored by staff on a daily basis. It is truly believed that Shultz’s Guest House is surrounded by the healing powers of nature so imagine how these dogs feel!

March 2016

The winner for March 2016 was dogma life, with your pet in Baltimore, MD! They chose to send their $250 donation to the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS) At dogma life, with your pet, their goal is to thoughtfully choose a selection of food, treats, products and services that help your pets—and you—get more out of life. They believe with good nutrition, playful exercise and proper grooming your pet will thrive. They were very excited to send their donation to BARCS, whose mission is to care for animals that were abandoned or given up by owners who can no longer care for them. Too many animals come to their shelter as victims of abuse or hit and run accidents. BARCS strives to improve the lives of these homeless animals. February 2016

We were very proud to extended the February 2016 donation to Lulu’s Locker Rescue in Chicago, IL on behalf of Chew on This Dog Barkery in Frankfort, IL! Chew on This Dog Barkery has been carrying the hottest fashions in pet-wear and accessories and the latest and healthiest food and chew options for the past 7 years. Their donation to Lulu’s Locker Rescue will help them carry on their mission to bring to light the plight of black cats and dogs and senior/hospice animals in shelters as well as the misconceptions surrounding FIV cats. They are very proud to aim to lower the euthanasia rate of these animals by educating the public and providing foster care as we seek out permanent homes. The winner of the December 2015 donation was Arizona Humane Society’s Petique at the Shops at Norterra in Phoenix, AZ!. Petique Retail and Adoption Center first opened it’s doors in 2008 and now has 4 locations that offer much more than just retail pet products for animals lovers. They offer open shelters for pet rescues as well. They were happy to forward their donation right back to the Arizona Humane Society! The Arizona Humane Society’s mission is to improve the lives of animals, alleviate their suffering, and elevate their status in society. They safeguard, rescue, shelter, heal, adopt and advocate for animals in need, while inspiring community action and compassion on their behalf. Since 1957, the Arizona Humane Society has fostered the belief that every pet deserves a good life. They are committed to doing what is best for pets and the people in their lives. November 2015

The November 2015 donation was given to Scraps Dog Bakery in Seattle, WA!. Scraps Dog Bakery is a one-stop-shop for the discerning Pet lover in downtown Seattle. They were very excited to pass along their donation to Old Dog Haven located in Lake Stevens, WA! Old Dog Haven is a small non-profit group using a large network of foster homes to provide a loving safe home for abandoned senior dogs. Their mission is to provide loving safe homes for senior dogs in western Washington, age 8 and over, who have been abandoned or will become homeless at this stage of their lives. On December 1st we made a surprise donation! This year the #GivingTuesday winner wasDoggyStyle NYC!. DoggyStyle NYC was thrilled to learn about the surprise donation and was very happy to “pay it forward” to Bobbi & the Strays in Freeport, NY! Bobbi & the Strays is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue that rescues stray dogs and cats from the streets, and from situations of abuse and neglect. Additionally, they rescue many of their dogs and cats from “death row” at kill shelters in New York. They also provide educational programs to schools, educating children and adults on responsible pet ownership and organizing spay/neuter services and events. October 2015

The October 2015 winner was Barkers of Orleans in Orleans, MA!. Barkers of Orleans was very pleased to send their $250 donation to The National Education for Assistance Dog Services Organization (NEADS) in Princeton, MA toward the funding of a service dog for a disabled veteran. NEADS provides assistance dogs and allows them to become an extension of their handlers and bring freedom, physical autonomy and relief from social isolation to their human partners who are deaf or have a disability. September 2015

Our September 2015 winner was Purr-Packs in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee!. Purr-Packs wished to have their donation forwarded to the Tennessee Humane Animal League in Chattanooga, TN! The Tennessee Humane Animal League is devoted to the placement of homeless or surrendered animals through The Pet Placement Center (PPC). The PPC survives entirely on donations and fundraising activities. They are the oldest no-kill animal adoption center in Hamilton County.


August 2015

For August 2015, the donation is awarded to Dogma Bakery in Arlington, VA!. Dogma Bakery chose to pass this donation to the Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Arlinton, VA! Lucky Dog Animal Rescue Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

We would like to congratulate our winner for July 2015, Bark!. Bark!’s choice for their pet-related charity was an easy one to make: Knine Rescue, Inc. in Brookeville, MD! Knine Rescue is a small non-profit, dedicated to animal care and protection. Since 2004, their goal has been to promote responsible animal ownership and to assume those responsibilities when others are unwilling or unable to do so. They assist shelters and other rescues as well.

June 2015

The June 2015 winner was HotDiggity in Mashpee, MA! Congrats! HotDiggity decided to make their donation go to Wild Care Cape Cod in Eastham, MA. Wild Care’s mission, since 1994, has been to treat injured, ill and orphaned native wildlife for release, to prevent wildlife casualties through public education and live counseling, and to engage the community in conservation through volunteerism.

Congratulations to our May 2015 winner, Barkley’s Gourmet Marketplace in Flemington, NJ! Barkley’s chose to make their donation to The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Eatontown, NJ. The MCSPCA has been protecting and advocating for animals since 1945! The donation directly funded the MCSPCA’sPittie Project“, who’s goal is to get into communities and offer support and education to reduce the number of bully breeds in shelters.
